AYR GROUPS MASS REPORT : THURSDAY 20th FEBRUARY 2025

It was a great pleasure to welcome Fr Philip Kitchen to celebrate Mass with the Ayr Groups and other invited guests. He has been a great Friend to SPRED over many years. Billy Hendren from the Thursday Evening Group was our Altar Server.

We were joined by members of the Kilmarnock Parishes Group who included Friends John and Morag who become full members of the Catholic Church on Sunday 2 March. A report on this will follow in due course.

We began with our gathering or entrance Hymn of Companions on the Journey.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

As we moved towards the Liturgy of the Word we prepared the Table of God’s Word. Mary organised this with our Friends: Caitie, Kevin, John and Morag. This was accompanied by some music.

Our first reading was from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians and we heard what Jesus did and said at the Last Supper.

The Reader was Marie and Helana provided an appropriate mime.

Our Responsorial Psalm was based on Psalm 103 which gives thanks for God’s Goodness. We used the song Bless the Lord oh my Soul (or 10,000 Reasons) for this. Everyone sang the response and joined in the Gestures.

The Gospel Reading was a shortened version of Jesus’ washing of His Disciples feet. This was again accompanied by a mime.

Prayers of the Faithfull read by Michael. These addressed both the Church, the World and our SPRED Family.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

The Altar was set up and Denise organised our Procession of Gifts with our Friends: Jason, Colin, and Margaret Rose.

As we all processed out to receive Communion from Fr Philip, we listened to the song The Vow. This helped us to reflect on the fact that we need nothing but Jesus and that we simply want to be with Him. After Communion we sang our Thanksgiving Hymn:

Christ is our Light.

In our final hymn, Shine Jesus Shine, we joyfully ended our Mass.

AGAPE

We then celebrated our Agape together before we sung our Shalom and headed home.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in the Mass and made it such a peaceful and joyful occasion.
